Bear wounded after killing, eating neighborhood dog

Sitka wildlife officials are warning about a possibly wounded bear in the Starrigavan area. According to police dispatch reports, a resident at the far end of Halibut Point Road fired three rounds from a .40-caliber handgun at a bear in his driveway late Monday night (5-13-14). Earlier the same evening, the bear had killed and eaten one of his three dogs.

Prosecution: Robidou ‘should have been looking out for their safety’

The state outlined its case against a former school administrator, in a sexual assault trial that opened Tuesday afternoon in Sitka (5-13-14). Joe Robidou was the principal of Blatchley Middle School in Sitka until January of last year. He’s facing 10 counts of sexual assault, based on accusations from three female staff members in his building.

Robidou Trial: Opening arguments set for 2 PM

After a day-and-a-half of work, a jury has been seated in the trial of Joe Robidou, a former Sitka school administrator charged with sexual assault. Between them, prosecutor Jean Seaton and defense attorney Julie Willoughby exhausted almost all of their peremptory challenges of potential jurors. The attorneys were not required to explain their reasons for excusing jurors. Each attorney was allowed up to 11 so-called "pre-empts."

No jury yet in trial of former principal

There’s no jury yet in the case of a former Sitka school administrator charged with sexual assault. Jury selection bogged down today (Mon 5-12-14) when 20 of the first 24 prospective jurors said they knew the defendant, former Blatchley Middle School Principal Joe Robidou, as well as the three women teachers in his building he is alleged to have assaulted.

Jury selection is underway in the trial of a former Sitka school administrator charged with 10 counts of sexual assault. But it could take a while to empanel 14 impartial residents Of the two dozen potential jurors interview by Superior Court Judge David George this morning (5-12-14), only four were not acquainted with the defendant, Joe Robidou, who resigned as principal of Blatchley Middle School in Sitka early last year.
