Sitka artist Nicholas Galanin was chosen as a Mentor Artist by the Native Arts and Culture Foundation, to transfer techniques in Tlingit metalsmithing to his apprentice, Samuel Paul Sheakley over the course of the next year. They spoke with KCAW’s Emily Kwong last week about the fellowship, the technique of chasing and repoussé, and the transfer of cultural knowledge.

More information on the fellowship can be found here.
