Sitka teachers agree to no pay raise next year

The Sitka School Board and district teachers have signed off on a new three-year contract. For the first year of the deal, at least, teachers agreed to take no pay raise.

Severed internet cable interrupts student testing in Alaska

Alaska’s star-crossed educational testing system suffered another setback today (Tue 3-29-16), when a fiber-optic cable near the University of Kansas was severed at about 1:30 PM Central Daylight Time.

For the third time in a half dozen years, Sitka Sound Sac Roe Herring Fishery has closed far short of the target harvest level.

Sitka rallies for respect

High school students and community members rallied at a local “Choose Respect” march through downtown Sitka on Thursday (3-24-16). The goal of this march, and others held across the state, was to bring awareness to Alaska’s high rates of sexual assault and domestic violence.
