Garbage rates likely to increase for first time in ten years

Tuesday night (10-27-15), the Sitka Assembly approved a contract with Alaska Pacific Environmental Services to continue collecting Sitka’s garbage. The agreement does come with one important caveat: In their bid, Alaska Pacific said customer rates must increase by 21.3%.

Police identify cemetery vandals as group of juveniles

Sitka Police have caught the culprits behind a series of vandalisms in a 200-year-old cemetery. The police acted on a handful of tips from citizens. Lance Ewers, the Sitka Police Lieutenant, described the culprits as a small group of juveniles between the ages of 10 and 12.
