Sarah DeLappe: Acting as a gateway for the playwright

Playwright Sarah DeLappe began her theater career as an actor. She says this is often how people enter the techical side of the business. During her seven-week residency as a Sitka Fellow, she's working on a play about an Alaska radio station, based on her twin sister's experience at KNOM in Nome, and on interviews with staff at KCAW in Sitka.

Murkowski’s Sitka layover: Upbeat on hydro bills, saddened by Leone case

Senator Lisa Murkowski paid an unexpected visit to Sitka this morning, along with a plane full of other Juneau-bound passengers who were unable to land in the state's foggy capital city. KCAW caught up with Alaska's senior senator at the ferry terminal. She's just co-sponsored a pair of energy bills which should reduce barriers to small hydro projects. She also expressed regret over actions taken to discipline former USCG Air Station Sitka pilot Lance Leone.

Yacht crewman’s death ruled accidental

The state medical examiner’s office has determined there was no foul play in the death of a man in Sitka’s ANB Harbor last month. The body of 33-year old John W. Schroeder, of New South Wales, Australia, was found on the bottom of ANB Harbor by Sitka Dive Rescue around 9 PM Friday July 12, near the end of float #1. Sgt. Bill Bandy, with the Sitka Police Department, says Schroeder’s death has been ruled an accidental drowning.

Sitka Cross Trail Marathon Classic route

This Saturday, August 3rd marks the inaugural Sitka Cross Trail Marathon. The race starts at 7:00 am and goes until 1:00 pm. Race organizers remind drivers to watch out for runners along the bridge, on Lincoln Street and on Halibut Point Road during the race.
