Tenakee Springs announces first known case of the coronavirus

The Chichagof Island community of Tenakee Springs has reported its first known case of the coronavirus. Mayor Dan Kennedy announced the new case on Tuesday. He identified the individual as a Tenakee Springs resident and said that state health officials have started the contact tracing process.

Blatchley Middle School’s first covid isolated through contact tracing, rather than quarantine

A staff member at Sitka’s Blatchley Middle School tested positive for the coronavirus late last week (Friday 9-25-20), but school resumed as usual on Monday. No mass quarantine was needed. Superintendent John Holst said "the processes we set in place worked pretty well."

Yakutat announces new case of COVID-19, possible community spread

The individual who tested positive took a test on Monday (9-21-20), according to a Yakutat Public Safety press release. It’s the second case that the community of around 600 people has reported in the last week. The two cases had no known contact with one another, and public health officials believe the new case is tied to community spread.
