DeArmond “Raven Series” exhibit to open in Sitka

The Sitka Historical Society is acquiring thirty prints and eleven hand-carved blocks by Dale DeArmond. A fundraiser and exhibition opening are scheduled for 6:30 PM Thu Oct 27 at Harrigan Centennial Hall. Exhibit curator Jackie Fernandez, museum director Bob Medinger, and guest Bill DeArmond joined KCAW's Robert Woolsey for the Morning Interview.

Sing out!

The 2011 Sacred Harp Convention in Sitka, Alaska. Saturday's (10-22-11) events included an all-day sing at The Loft. About a dozen Sacred Harp enthusiasts from around the US joined locals for the event. Dr. Tom Malone, from the University of Massachusettes, led the Song School. Sacred Harp is an acapella vocal tradition dating to 18th century American church music.

Sawmill Cove board looks to dock, marine services

With some of their worst fears about the economic recession behind them, the board of Sitka’s Sawmill Cove Industrial Park would like to begin moving forward again. About twenty-five Sitkans joined the board for its October meeting on Thursday afternoon (10-20-11), as it was held outdoors on a walking tour of the site.

STE to roll out new trolleys next summer

Visitors to Sitka will have another way to get around beginning next summer. Sitka Tribal Enterprises plans to roll out two trolley-style buses. Camille Ferguson, the economic development director for STE, told the Sitka Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday (10-19-11).
