Ramshackle Cabaret’s holiday show a mix of naughty, nice

The Ramshackle Cabaret will turn on the holiday spirit in a performance this Saturday, December 22, at 8 p.m. downstairs in the Mean Queen. There are ten acts on the bill -- a mixture of naughty and nice! And a likely visit from Santa! With the Ramshackle Cabaret's Serena Wild and Michael Mausbach, and Artchange, Inc.'s Ellen Frankenstein.

Sentinel Sports: Tough basketball schedule opens; wrestling ends with a twist

Teams from both Sitka High and Mt. Edgecumbe opened their basketball seasons with strong performances against tough opponents, in order favorably weight their rankings for the state tournament. In wrestling, MEHS coach Mike Kimber was inducted into the Alaska Wrestling Hall of Fame in the opening ceremony of last weekend's state meet. However, his top, undefeated wrestler lost a 5-1 decision in the heavyweight title match. Daily Sitka Sentinel sports editor Klas Stolpe talks with KCAW's Robert Woolsey.

The Sitka Cirque held its annual Winter Showcase on Saturday, December 15, 2018. The performance was held in conjunction with a Family Social featuring face painting, cookies, and mask decorating. The event was a fundraiser for Sitka Cirque's scholarship fund.

Boys Run 5K set for Saturday, December 15

SAFV's Boys Run Program is gearing up for its annual 5K Fun Run, 10 a.m. Saturday, December 15. This year's theme is Color Run! Participants in grades 3 through 5 and coaches discuss what they have learned this year, and invite Sitka to join their celebration this weekend.

Suspect arrested for selling stolen bikes on Sitka social media

An attempt to traffick stolen bicycles in Sitka has been foiled, and the suspect is facing felony charges. A Juneau grand jury last week (12-6-18) indicted 35-year old Walter Lee Boyd on one count of theft in the second degree for allegedly stealing a pair of bicycles and later selling them on the Sitka For Sale Facebook page.

The CorvidEYE: Where’s Mr. Joe?

Students in Sarah Eddy's first grade class at Baranof Elementary enjoy ice cream and the miniature Lego amusement park in the window of Harry Race Pharmacy and Soda Fountain in downtown Sitka. Of special interest? A tiny rock guitar player modeled after Baranof PE teacher Joe Montagna, or "Mr. Joe."
