Shedding light on Turnaround Skate Park

Built in 2007, Turnaround Skate Park in Sitka is a playground for adrenaline-seekers of all skill levels, from kids on scooters to young adults on long boards. In recent years, however, the reputation of the space has been shaken by steady reports of alcohol and drug use by non-skating adults. Skaters have had enough with the unwelcome company. So, the city has decided to shed some light on the situation.

From ice to apex, WhaleFest ’15 explores ocean edges

In its 19th year, the annual science symposium is organized by the Sitka Sound Science Center and features three days of lectures, markets, and whale cruises. The theme this year was “Life on the Boundary” - devoted to scientific study at the edges of the ocean.

Miyasato wants more collaboration

Ben Miyasato is one of three candidates for four seats on Sitka Tribe of Alaska Tribal Council. The current council treasurer is running for his third term. Miyasato wants to ensure education and employment for tribal citizens, as well as more local government collaboration.
