Historic restoration interns build skills, shape careers on SJ campus

Justin Han, Murielle LeMaire, Kate Latimore, and Quinn Evangelakos are four of eight students in the Historic Restoration Internship Program on the Sheldon Jackson Fine Arts Campus. The month-long program is "hard work, but a chill atmosphere" for the interns, some of whom have never hammered a nail or operated a power tool.

Captains Matthew and Charleen Morrow arrived last month to take over leadership at Sitka's Salvation Army. They discuss the aid they offer through the soup kitchen and the store, as well as community programs like a Sunday morning worship services and women's group.

Sikta Fellows Sam Silbiger and Emily Carris join KCAW's Brooke Schafer to talk about the central questions and motivation for their work. All fellows, including Lila Chernoff and Anna Dawson, will present their work on Thursday, August 9th at 7 p.m. in the Yaw Art Center.

Aurora Lang, Willow Moore, and Jessica Menges of the Alaska Longline Fishermen's Association talk about the month's events, which includes a festival day of games, a market, and live music, as well as storytelling events and classes.
