Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum silent auction is back!

This year's Friends of SJM silent auction will be this Saturday (bidding open 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, May 8, Sitka Unitarian Universalist Hall) Call-in bids will be welcome 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.(numbers available at the SUU Hall). Items for bid include original artwork, prints, jewelry, sculpture, textiles. Masks/social distancing required. Sales support projects like the Native Artist Residency Program.

Pomp and Distance: MEHS Class of ’21 graduates in covid-cautious ceremony

The seventy-three members of the Mt. Edgecumbe High School Class of 2021 were graduated in ceremonies on campus the morning of Thursday, May 6. Although not the usual standing-room only crowd, Thursday's event brought many families into Sitka, with students hailing from far-flung communities like St. Paul Island and Alakanuk.

A busy summer on the Tongass for the Sitka Ranger District

Chief ranger Perry Edwards discusses some projects in the lineup for the Sitka Ranger District this summer, including improvements to the Shelikov Beach trail and Harbor Mt. trail, the realignment of the Gavan Hill trail, and the Starrigavan Watershed Restoration project. Also, improvements to Sandy Beach (yes, that's Forest Service!) are in the works.
