UPDATE: New data show volcanic uplift has been constant below Mt. Edgecumbe since 2018

An analysis of satellite radar data shows that almost 11 inches of uplift has occurred over a broad area just east of the Mt. Edgecumbe crater since 2018 -- as magma "intrudes" into the crust below.

The CorvidEYE: Sitkans celebrate Earth Day at 21st annual Parade of Species

The event, which is hosted by the Sitka Conservation Society encourages Sitkans to dress as their favorite plants, animals and bugs in observance of Earth Day. Many sported silly hats, animal onesies, or hand crafted costumes as they paraded from downtown Sitka's Lincoln street to the Sitka Fine Arts Campus.

Task Force looks for proactive solutions to Sitka’s urban bear issues

The Sitka Bear Task Force is reconvening to gather ideas for addressing Sitka's bear issues proactively. Assembly liaison Crystal Duncan and ADF&G biologist Steve Bethune discuss the group's mission and goals and aspects of habitat biology which make garbage management a more effective solution than killing the animals. The first meeting is noon, Thursday, April 21, in Harrigan Centennial Hall. The public is welcome to attend.
