A new round of vaccine in Sitka means we are ‘1b at last!’

Harry Race & White's Pharmacies vaccine coordinator Katelyn Ylitalo receives a FedEx delivery of COVID-19 vaccine at the Sitka Firehall on Friday, January 15. Bad weather had delayed the arrival of the cargo flight on Thursday. Sitka residents 65 and older and all healthcare workers (aka "1b Tier 1" in the state's nomenclature) are eligible to receive the vaccine.

Downed tree on Jeff Davis Street causes power outage

Recent high winds caused at least one power outage this week. A tree on Jeff Davis Street fell, blocking traffic and damaging power lines on Wednesday (1-14-20) afternoon. According to a press release, the Sitka Electric Department is working on removing the damaged tree and restoring power to the area. City staff ask that the area be avoided if possible until the repairs are made.

From arias to R&B, Watson offers homebound audiences a ‘smorgasbord of vocal delight’ in free livestream concert

Shelly Watson will perform in an online live, free concert 6 p.m. Thursday, January 14, sponsored by the Sitka Music Festival. A graduate of the Julliard School, Watson is a master of an extraordinary range of vocal styles, from opera to jazz and beyond. Sitka Music Festival artistic director Zuill Bailey will introduce Watson, who will perform from her "home stage." No ticket purchase or registration is needed.
